Time of My Life Explores the Question: What If?

We’ve all wondered, “What if?” — whether it’s about marrying that first love, going after a dream job or having the foresight to invest in Apple Inc. 10 years ago. Exploring the path not taken is impossible in the real world, but in Time of My Life, the latest novel from Allison Winn Scotch (author of The Department of Lost and Found), protagonist Jillian Westfield travels back in time to find the answers.

When we meet Jillian, she’s a suburban housewife and stay-at-home mom to baby daughter Katie — and despite her gleaming house, aerodynamic stroller and even the Range Rover that promises the American dream, she finds herself pondering how life would have turned out with her spontaneous ex-boyfriend Jackson. Next thing you know, she wakes up seven years in the past, in the apartment she and Jackson shared. Armed with 20/20 hindsight, Jillian can choose to avoid fights with Jackson, rework ad campaigns at her old job and reconnect with the mother who left her in childhood. But eventually, she finds herself wondering if it’s not the past that she needs to change — it just might be herself.

This New York Times best seller is a must-read for anyone who’s ever struggled with second-guessing major decisions. In a recent interview, Scotch says the book has been optioned to the Weinstein Co., so it might be in theaters one day as well.

If someone offered you the opportunity to rewrite your history, would you take it?
