Super Fly: Cirque du Soleil and Reebok Debut ‘Jukari’ Workout

The new Jukari Fit class features Cirque du Soleil-inspired moves.

The new Jukari Fit to Fly program will have you swinging into action with Cirque du Soleil-inspired moves.

Show us a workout that involves cute clothes and feeling lighter than air and we’re so there! Last week, Reebok did a stealth preview in L.A. of the hot new Jukari Fit to Fly gym program it’s launching in partnership with Cirque du Soleil. The central prop in the regimen is a highly versatile trapeze known as the FlySet. Jukari felt to us like a combination of trapeze work and anti-gravity yoga poses — with a few pole dancing moves thrown in.

But will it buff you up? To witness the naked truth for yourself, head for Vegas and check out the gorgeous bodies that populate Cirque’s Zumanity. Or just take our word for it: This is an awesome core and upper-body strengthening program that’s graceful and fun. We’d raise our right hand and swear to that, but right now our arms are too sore from attending the debut 60-minute class. Plans are for Jukari classes to be rolled out in Equinox gyms across the U.S., with New York City getting the first FlySet installations in April or May with L.A. and Miami to follow. The spring/summer Reebok On the Move and Cirque du Soleil collections of fitness clothes, shoes and boots are available now.

We love discovering novel ways to stay fit. Have you tried any new classes lately?

We wanted one too when we finished the workout! Unfortunately, the Jukari set-up requires a high ceiling and a lot of rigging to make it safe, so it’s a club-based workout only. For the supereffective body-sculpting part of the workout (that is, the hard part), you might want to take a look at the TRX suspension system: http://www.fitnessanywhere.com. Options for trapeze work are more limited, but if you’re in Baltimore, Boston, LA or New York, check out the Trapeze School New York: http://www.trapezeschool.com.
