Star Power: Celebs Support Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Sharon Lawrence

Sharon Lawrence celebrated women's joie de vivre at the Les Girls cabaret.

We recently attended the ninth annual Les Girls cabaret in Hollywood, the annual celeb-studded fundraiser for the National Breast Cancer Coalition. We were pleased to see so many stars out in force. Many in the show have a loved one who had breast cancer, including Modern Family’s Ty Burrell and Mad Men’s Bryan Batt, whose mothers survived it.

“We’re all touched by breast cancer,” says Sharon Lawrence, who recently guest starred on Curb Your Enthusiasm. “The cure is close, but it will take money and effort.” Lawrence tells us she always looks forward to Les Girls because “it’s about sass and celebrating the joie de vivre that women have. Breast cancer in particular can strip away one’s sense of femininity but this gives it right back.”

The stars will continue to show their support Oct. 18 during the Run 4 Her Life 5k/10k race in Glendale, CA. Chaired by Shannon Tweed and Sophie Tweed-Simmons of Gene Simmons Family Jewels, the event will benefit research at the Harold E. and Henrietta C. Lee Breast Cancer Center at the USC Norris Cancer Hospital and USC/Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center. “There’s a selfish element in it for me,” Tweed says. “I want my daughter to be informed and conscious about the disease and its prevention and treatment.” Catherine Dent and CCH Pounder of The Shield and Lorraine Toussaint of Saving Grace are among the celebrities expected to attend.

For those who love shoes (who doesn’t?), Keeping Up With the Kardashians star Kim Kardashian came up with a clever new service and a way to give back for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Kardashian, whose grandmother battled breast cancer, and her team of stylists at ShoeDazzle.com will custom-select five pair of shoes for you, from which you pick and receive one pair for a monthly fee of $39. If you select the pink Stephanie pump, you’ll help fund breast-cancer research with 10 percent of the proceeds benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
