This shimmery stunner wowed the crowd at the Michael Kors show.
New York Fashion Week officially wrapped yesterday, so now we’re obsessed with spring style! Here’s a roundup of our favorite collections for 2010.
Naeem Khan
In an energy-filled showroom last night, Khan showcased his stellar spring collection that included structured silk jackets, slinky tunics, caftans and jewel-encrusted pieces. To top off the evening, Khan’s wife, Ranjana, debuted her dramatic spring jewelry collection, saving the best for last!
Oscar de la Renta
Oscar pulled out his strongest designs, wowing the audience with a feminine array of work, play and party attire — from his elegant take on safari to bejeweled ensembles for ladies who lunch. Other highlights were his teal crochet and white eyelet with black lace numbers. And of course Oscar wouldn’t be Oscar without his jaw-dropping evening gowns in punchy colors, which closed the show.
Michael Kors
This uncomplicated collection was a refreshing delight. The very wearable pieces boasted clean lines in soft pastels and hints of metallic modernized with futuristic touches such as clear plastic straps and belts. Chunky Lucite chokers and skinny belts instantly updated classic shift dresses. Kors ended with a surprise — a shimmery sequin number that was simply genius!
Max Azria
The consummate minimalist cleverly combined sleek lines with unexpected elements. Fabrics like cream and black georgette and dove crepe gently grazed the body while slashes trimmed with elegant beading exposed hints of skin. Stunning metallic mesh details sparkled both over and under transparent fabrics.
Cynthia Rowley
This luxe yet wearable line showcased shattered sequin sweaters, twisted dresses and smoky silk ensembles that culminated in an intentionally disheveled yet elegant society look. Other key items included the charred pavé brooches that gave a classic dress and top an instant lift, plus the foggy floral patterns that are just perfect for spring!
Chadwick Bell
Inspired by the artist Miró, Bell created a gorgeous collection focusing on textures such as tree bark and eel skin and hues like charcoal, birch and golden finch. The airy and elegant line was all about ease, and showcased delicate hand-sewn details. Accessories such as the skinny double belts and braided necklaces were also a hit.
Prabal Gurung
Gurung’s absolutely stunning and sophisticated collection certainly focused on the details. His choices of fabrics were luxe — double-faced charmeuse, silk duchesse and silk twill gazar — and the exquisite touches of spiraling horsehair, exploded bows and painted roses made his pieces all the more notable.
VIVmag’s editors also loved the spring collections from Carolina Herrera, Marc Jacobs and Donna Karan. Which designers do you adore?
