Oscars Feature Green Goodies

Green, not bling, was the theme of this year’s Oscar gifting suites, L.A.’s annual pre-awards celeb swagfest. There were no mink eyelash extensions, 24-karat-gold-leaf facials or slingbacks studded with gemstones at the Alive! Lounge at Sofitel LA hotel.

Instead, the fair-trade food company Explorer’s Bounty debuted its new line of puffed crunchy fruit (our favorite was cinnamon banana, just 90 calories and 0 grams fat for a ¾-ounce bag). Jonathan Antin, the celebrity hairdresser and showman of Bravo’s reality show Blow Out, dispensed his just-launched Green Rootine shampoo and silkening cream, which contain ingredients like aloe vera, black cumin and rosemary (“It’s the first organic hair-care line that’s style-conscious,” Antin claims), along with blow-drying tips (“Pull the hair taut with a round brush,” he says. “You need heat and tension for the perfect blowout. It’s like ironing a shirt; you won’t get the wrinkles out unless you lay it flat”).

Celebrity manicurist Nettie Davis offered nontoxic manicures (she smoothed our cuticles with olive oil and buffed our nails to a natural shine) and samples of her luscious organic body balms in scents like grapefruit, lavender and cedar (find them, along with her sugar scrubs, at nettiescrub.com). Best of all, swagsters were able to haul those goodies away in a colorful tote made out of recycled juice pouches (check out the collection of totes, wine bags, makeup purses and lunchbox coolers at Mo’ Betta World).

What’s your favorite new green and chic discovery?
