This retro cocktail ring contains Very Hollywood Michael Kors solid perfume, a subtle floral scent.
Our mother’s extensive jewelry collection included several solid-perfume rings that she purchased from Avon in the late 1960s and early 1970s. As a little girl, we were fascinated with the way the jewel top unclasped to reveal the fragrance hidden inside. So when we discovered that Michael Kors would be offering his new fragrance, Very Hollywood, in a solid-perfume cocktail ring ($40) at Sephora, we instantly wanted one. That was even before we were captivated by the subtly sexy scent — classic glamour of old Hollywood captured in a bottle. (Or a ring.)
The fragrance — available at Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom, Dillard’s, Michael Kors boutiques and MichaelKors.com — is feminine and floral without being overpowering. The scent includes jasmine, ylang-ylang, raspberry and gardenia, among hints of amber, mandarin, black currant leaves, bergamot and vetiver. (In fact, floral scents usually don’t smell quite right on us, but this combination works.) The pink and gold packaging also is retro-chic, with a feminine font and bottles adorned with glass flashbulb impressions. Very Hollywood is available as a perfume spray ($300) and eau de parfum spray (from $45). In October, scented lotion ($45) also debuts. To celebrate the fragrance’s launch, Very Hollywood is inviting people to submit videos describing the ultimate Hollywood moment for a Hollywood Correspondent Contest. The winner will receive a trip to a red-carpet event as the Very Hollywood Michael Kors correspondent, reporting via video and Twitter.
We think it’s fun that Michael Kors is melding old and new — his new fragrance in the retro solid-perfume ring. Do you think perfume rings are cool and fun or a bit too kitschy?
