Patti Stanger got too busy with work to walk out on commitment-phobe boyfriend (now fiancé) Andy Friedman.
We’re constantly entertained by Patti Stanger’s tough-love advice for the rich and romantically challenged on The Millionaire Matchmaker. When it comes to issues of ageism and chivalry, the brutally honest brunette — who claims more than 100 marriages to her credit with no divorces — isn’t afraid to say exactly what she’s thinking.
Stanger’s advice for women looking for love in midlife? “Get out of the city you live in and start mixing it up,” she says. And while you’re at it, nix the perfectionism: “When you make a list of ‘He has to live here, look like this, be this or that,’ you’re going to get nothing.” If you’re looking for companionship but don’t have time to devote to a family, Stanger suggests considering men 10 to 15 years older, as many divorced or widowed men over 50 enjoy being married but have likely already had kids and may not want more.
Stanger, 48, says it took six years of dating to get her “commitment-phobe” fiancé Andy Friedman, a non-millionaire who works in insurance and real estate, to propose. “He kept saying, ‘Give me another year,’ and I was going to walk. But I got so busy with my business that I forgot about it. So when he gave me the ring” — a heart-shaped, four-karat diamond he presented on vacation in Hawaii — “I didn’t even know it was coming,” she says.
Tune in to Bravo tonight at 10 p.m. ET to see Stanger go head-to-head with 40-year-old divorcée Nicole Sherwin, one of two eco-conscious clients featured on the latest episode. And tell us: What’s your best advice for maintaining a mature relationship?
