These mini misters add flavor to salads without packing a lot of calories. And each one is small enough to fit in your purse!

These mini misters add flavor to salads without packing a lot of calories. And each one is small enough to fit in your purse!

Passport? Check. Collapsible tote bag? Check. Dramamine? Check. Oil and vinegar? Check. Until now you probably haven’t considered packing the makings of salad dressing, but then, there’s never been anything like Gourmè Mist, a line of eco-friendly, non-aerosol oil and vinegar misters that come in a nifty 3.5-ounce travel size.

Yes, you probably have a can of cooking spray in your pantry, and that’s fine for priming the pan for an omelet, but not really what you’d reach for to complement gorgeous leafy greens or a crusty baguette. Gourmè misters, on the other hand, are worthy of the most outstanding arugula. They contain no additives, just imported organic cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil; barrel-aged balsamic vinegar; pomegranate or raspberry balsamic; and organic canola oil. Nor do the misters contain any chemical propellants; instead you prime the bottle with a few pumps, press the nozzle and a fine mist of oil or vinegar is carried on a stream of air. It’s an effortless way to control calories; a spritz of oil and vinegar will flavor your salad for a total of five measly calories. And the built-in calorie coach is cheap too: The standard 6.5-ounce bottles contain 384 servings ($8.99 for the organic olive oil; $7.99 for the vinegars), the travel-sized bottles 208 servings for just about five bucks. Shop online or find a store near you at gourmemist.com.

We wish we’d had these misters with us on a recent road trip where we found ourselves confronting ladles of fat-laden dressings at the salad bar. What’s your favorite carry-along for eating healthy on the road?

I love this write up. I will go out and buy one of these terrific misters. I like the idea of having one in my purse and a larger one in my pantry.
