Gift of Meduri World Delights Shows Good Taste

Meduri World Delights

Meduri World Delights can be enjoyed on their own or added to salads, muffins, desserts and other recipes.

It was love at first bite — truly — when we first tasted the Cinnamon Fuji Apple Wedges from Meduri World Delights. Our girlfriend discovered this family-owned, dried-fruit company based in Oregon and ordered these spiced apple wedges, which she offered us from a gorgeous silver tin. The apples were soft, plump and lightly dusted with cinnamon sugar. It was a snack, fruit and dessert all rolled into one — the perfect healthful treat!

The company sources its fruit from all over the world — Mandarin oranges from China, peaches from Chile, and cranberries, blueberries and Bing cherries from the Pacific Northwest — and then dries it in small batches on shallow trays before adding spices or sweeteners, but no preservatives. What’s so appealing about the fruit is how chunky, moist and succulent it is. It’s not tough or leathery, like some dried fruit, nor has it been so sugared that it’s lost its flavor (or nutrition), like those sticky red-and-green fruitcake cherries.

Smitten with the spiced apple wedges, we tried several more offerings: The Golden Blush Peaches (from Chile) captured the essence of a perfectly ripe peach and were fantastic added to plain nonfat yogurt; the Camerosa Strawberries (from Mexico) were small, but chubby and jammed with fruit flavor (so good in corn muffins!); and the Double Red Grapefruit Slices (also from Mexico) were tart, sweet and almost juicy (scrumptious dipped in melted dark chocolate).

Meduri World Delights offers all sorts of other goodies, including fruit mixes (some with nuts), fruit-speckled baked goods and chocolate fruit confections. You can also buy the fruit in gift sets with woven bamboo trays (from $64). We happen to like those snappy silver tins (from $14.95), however, because when they’re empty, we fill them up again with other wholesome items, including dried beans, lentils and whole grains.

What’s your favorite dried fruit?

I’m looking for a Meduri dried fruits catalog. Does anyone know where I can get one?

Has anyone ever tried smoked kipper snacks? They’re similar to sardines and just as delicious. Try King Oscar – yumyum.
