Geoffrey Beene Teams Up With the Family Violence Prevention Fund

December 22nd, 2008

GiveRespect.orgEven as we’re feeling the economic pinch, we all still want to find a way to help others, so we love that supporting a worthy cause can be a simple as a visit to GiveRespect.org and a few clicks of a mouse — without even reaching for your wallet.

Through Dec. 31, when you visit the site and click to enter the Rally for Respect, Geoffrey Beene Gives Back will donate $5 on your behalf to the Family Violence Prevention Fund, an organization working to prevent domestic and sexual violence against adults and children. The fashion company, which donates its net profits to philanthropic endeavors, will donate an additional $5 once you enter the site and click on your exclamation key [!] when prompted.

If you choose to donate to FVPF, which earns four out of four stars from Charity Navigator, Geoffrey Beene will match the amount. Geoffrey Beene Gives Back has promised to donate up to $500,000 — as of early December, the total was more than $40,000. You also can show support for the Family Violence Prevention Fund by purchasing a RESPECT! bracelet from Macy’s.

We think this is a great way to maximize a donation. Do you know of other ways to help out good causes, even if you’re on a budget?

Love the idea. Another great organization is OneHope Wine. They give 50% of their profits to partner charities through cause specific varietals of wine. Chardonnay profits go to breast cancer, Merlot goes to the fight aganist aids, Zinfandel goes to saving our planet, etc. You can purchase online at http://www.hopewine.com. I will drink wine regardless so why not buy wine that helps others??

fccla.inc is another website for high school students against violence – they have a t-shirt project where each background represents a different domestic violence and they did a project with it. Family Career & Community Leaders of America is a wonderful organization where there are regional, state and national competitions each year. Most students have a fashion class to study in their high schools. I teach fashion.
