In light of the growing peanut-butter products recall (due to Salmonella contamination), we read through the Food and Drug Administration’s list to check against our shelves. We were distressed to see a number of our favorite energy and diet bars on the list — among them, five varieties of CLIF bars, as well as ZonePerfect’s Chocolate Peanut Butter and Peanut Toffee Bars. Many of the snack bars are targeted to women, so check your cupboards for LUNA bars (Nutz Over Chocolate and Peanut Butter Cookie), LÄRABAR’s Peanut Butter Cookie and NutriSystem’s Peanut Butter Granola Bar. The FDA has a complete list of recalled peanut butter products, as well as a downloadable file.
The outbreak has been traced to the Peanut Corporation of America (PCA), a manufacturer of peanut butter and paste. Because PCA does not sell directly to consumers, major national brands of peanut butter are not affected, but check the list for candy, crackers, cookies, ice cream — and even pet food — that may be contaminated with bacteria.
Are any of your favorite products in the recall list?
