Happily, European studies often seem to prove that delicious things are good for you. Case in point: A recent study from the National Cancer Institute of Milan and the Catholic University in Campobasso, Italy, shows that eating dark chocolate can reduce systemic inflammation by about 17 percent. This in turn decreases the risk of cardiovascular disease — including strokes and myocardial infarctions (heart attacks) — by one-third for women (vs. one-fourth for men).
Before you dig into that leftover Halloween candy, though, there are a few things to keep in mind. The researchers recommend 6.7 grams of dark chocolate per day, or approximately a quarter-ounce. That means that a 3-ounce Vosges Organic Dominica Noir Candy Bar ($8.50), for example, has a dozen of the suggested servings. Feeling adventurous? You could try rationing Vosges’ new Organic Enchanted Mushroom Candy Bar with organic dark chocolate, organic walnuts and reishi mushrooms ($8.50). Because we know it’s impossible to keep an opened bar around for 12 days, perhaps you can share — or better yet, get a friend to split her chocolate bar with you.
And speaking of sharing, the lovely folks at Vosges are offering VIVmag blog readers a 10 percent discount on all online purchases through Nov. 30. Just enter the following code at checkout: 2810WB1. Bon appétit!

This chocolate is great. I really like the sea salt and almond. They even have one with bacon, probably not too healthy. If only I knew someone in NYC who could get me some without the shipping costs to Ohio…..
Red wine and dark chocolate diets all round so
