It's electric! The Chevrolet Volt, available later this year, made a flash appearance on the celebrity gifting circuit.
Shiny gold statues aren’t the only things handed out to Hollywood’s elite during Oscar season. For stars, stylists and members of the media, the week leading up to the big night is a whirlwind of gift suites and exposure to fun new products. We had the chance to check out the wares, which included one big-ticket item no one was taking home: a Chevrolet Volt, GM’s new electric car, on sneak preview at the Global Green event.
How it works: You plug the car into your house current for three hours to get 40 miles of travel, plenty for most commutes; after that, the gas engine kicks in. The Volt is a roomy hatchback with lots of head- and legroom that will be available in late 2010, starting in California, Michigan and Washington, D.C.
Eco-consciousness was a major theme everywhere, with green products or entirely green gift lounges designed to appeal to environmentally oriented celebs. At the Eco-Oscars Green Carpet Hospitality Lounge, we especially loved the Pure Heat line of hair tools, featuring ceramic, anti-static round brushes in four sizes, made from 50 percent recycled material, and the Ditto hangers, made from recycled waste paper and sold in packs of 10 at Bed Bath & Beyond stores.
At the Alive! Green Expo, we snapped up anti-aging skin care products from Lavanya and samples of Yonka cleanser, lotion and masque, which, we hear, are favorites of Jennifer Lopez, Madonna and Vanessa Williams.
There were more skin-care goodies at the GBK Oscar Suite, where the EGF Reactivator line impressed Marissa Jaret Winokur of Oxygen’s Dance Your Ass Off, and Sprout watches, made from sustainable and biodegradable organic cotton and bamboo and available at Nordstrom, were a hit with The View’s Sherri Shepherd. Also on the sustainable end, R.E.U.S.E. Jeans reweaves denim from recycled fabric, and we hear that Eva Longoria Parker is a fan.
Visitors to the Platinum Oscar Suite at the House of Blues got waterproof digital watches from Deuce Brand, pretty underwear from Biatta, and our favorite item, a bag of goodies from Fashion Forms including adhesive breast “petals,” tape for affixing to low-cut tops and dresses, disposable adhesive under-breast lifters, a copy of The Bra Book (a very cool guide to finding the perfect fit), a handy tape measure, and a set of gel shoe inserts — just the thing for red-carpet high heels!
Which product are you most eager to try?
