In memory of Nancy Block-Zenna, who lost her battle with cancer in 2007, "Nancy" is printed on Purple Lab's gloss.
According to an American Cancer Society report, breast-cancer deaths in the United States have decreased about 2 percent every year since 1990. We believe that heightened awareness of the importance of early detection is partially to credit. During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, many beauty companies highlight products that donate to breast-cancer research and education groups. Following are a few of our favorites that make us feel beautiful on the outside and the inside.
1. Aveda Pink Ribbon Hand Relief ($21): This cream soothes chapped hands with plant emollients and exfoliating fruit acids. Aveda gives $4 from every purchase of the 5 fluid-ounce size to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
2. Mamma Mio Boob Tube ($45): Through October, $1 from every website purchase of the décolletage toner originating from the U.S. goes to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and 1 pound from British and worldwide sales goes to Cancer Research UK.
3. Philosophy Shower for the Cure ($20): 100 percent of net proceeds from this all-in-one shower gel, shampoo and bubble bath go to the Women’s Cancer Research Fund. Through the end of October, send a line to Philosophy about an unforgettable cancer survivor in your life and it may be selected to appear on a 2010 limited edition of the Shower for the Cure bottle. Entrants also will be eligible to win a $275 gift set.
4. Purple Lab Sealed With A Cure (SWAC) gloss ($18.50): The Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation, which funds research for this difficult-to-treat form of the disease, receives 20 percent of the proceeds from this gold-flecked, blush-pink hue, which contains echinacea, mangosteen, vanilla and vitamins C and E.
5. Sephora BCA Refillable Powder Brush ($22): $2 from every sale is donated to breast-cancer awareness. The brush is retractable and is designed to carry and apply mineral and other loose powders. For more products, check out Sephora’s Beauty With a Cause page.
6. Suki Exfoliate Foaming Cleanser ($29.95): Throughout October and November, 100 percent of proceeds from the vegan cleanser will be donated to Breast Cancer Action’s Think Before You Pink Campaign, which calls for honest breast-cancer fundraising.
We think it’s encouraging to see so many products benefiting breast-cancer research and awareness. For more items, check out “Perfect Pink Purchases” in our September/October issue. Do you have a favorite breast-cancer awareness product?
