The hottest new bar in Los Angeles doesn’t serve lychee mojitos or pomegranate martinis. Instead it offers up scores of shampoos, conditioners, mists, foams, masques and cremes. We’re talking about the Bumble and bumble retail/styling bar at STUDIO at Fred Segal Santa Monica, the trendsetting beauty emporium.
The space launched to coincide with the debut of the new Curl Conscious line, and we stopped by to get advice from Howard McLaren, Bb’s VP and senior artistic director. He took us in — J Brand trouser jeans, Burning Touch silk halter, chunky Jill Sander sandals … and unkempt tresses — and said reprovingly, “you are much too put-together to be walking around with hair like that.”
We could have been insulted; instead we were eager for a fix, and McLaren offered it, summoning a stylist who sprayed our hair with Reactivating Mist ($20), then applied Holding Foam ($26), working it from the nape upward, and finished with Defining Cream ($26). The look: polished and playful.
