Adidas by Stella McCartney Debuts at U.S. Open

The fall collection of Adidas by Stella McCartney includes this Tennis Performance Dress.

Top 10 player Caroline Wozniacki will wear this adidas by Stella McCartney dress during the U.S. Open.

A friend tried to teach us to play tennis about seven years ago, but after a few hours of chasing errant balls around neighboring courts, he resigned as our coach. Since then, (we think) our game has improved enough to earn us the right to fashionable tennis attire, so we have eagerly awaited the adidas by Stella McCartney fall/winter 2009 collection. Most striking is the Tennis Performance Dress ($130), with a layered skirt and CLIMALITE fabric to reduce heat and moisture.

The collection also includes a Performance Skirt ($100) that can be paired with a short-sleeve polo or long-sleeved T-shirt. For base comfort, there’s the Performance Bra ($55) and Hot Pants ($50) in CLIMALITE fabric. Skynde tennis shoes ($175, available in seed pearl, dark grape and white) are designed for support and cushioning on clay or hard courts. For covering up, there are the woven pants ($120) and the Tennis Image Jacket ($175), which is available in dark grape and light onix (a shade of gray). Danish tennis sensation Caroline Wozniacki, who is currently ranked No. 8 in the world, will be wearing the jacket, dress, Skynde shoes and other items from the collection during the U.S. Open, which kicks off today and runs through Sept. 13.

Even if our game will never get us to the U.S. Open, at least we can dress like the pros. How do you balance fashion and function on the court?
