VIV Moment

I have been very lucky to be able to make most of my dreams come true in my life so far. I’ve spent a lot of time and energy searching for happiness by traveling to exotic countries, making friends around the world, and experiencing love and joy in extremes. But if I had to choose a special moment that has truly affected me, I must look back at a sadder time.

My dad died over five years ago, after a long and difficult battle with cancer. It was a devastating time where I lost a very special father and friend, and felt completely immobilized with shock and grief. During this time, the thing I remember the most is my mom’s tremendous support. I remember her kind words and her taking care of all of the stressful details.

Most importantly, I recall the moment she leaned against me during an emotional point of the memorial service. I felt she was holding me up both physically and emotionally. It was that moment that I felt the love and the strength it takes to be a mother. A sad moment became something beautiful. She made me realize that happiness and love are often found a lot closer to home.
