Taking risks to find happiness.
VIV Moment
After building my career at PR agencies for about 10 years, I was at a triple crossroad: do I continue working at a PR agency or do I embark on a new endeavor outside of PR…and, what about romance? Will I ever find my true love and soul mate?
I took some time off to think about it, quit my agency job, and moved from California to Cape Cod. After several months of much introspection, while supporting myself as a shop girl and waitress, I one day came across an article in a small community weekly entitled something like “Be Your Own Boss.”
I hadn’t even considered starting my own business. It got my wheels spinning and I thought, “I can be my own boss and be successful… I’m not burnt out on PR, I am burnt out on the big corporate PR agency job.”
I realized that I love doing PR and that I could be successful in my own PR business, working on projects of my choosing and with clients and colleagues I enjoy partnering with.
That decision was life-changing. I learned to trust my instincts. I returned to Southern California and reconnected with colleagues who had recently opened their own PR shops, and they helped me get started by
sending referrals my way.
Not only have I been successfully working for
myself for the past 5 years, but I also met and married my husband
within that time frame, and I’m happier than I ever would have imagined!
