VIV Moment

It started out as one of those conversations where everyone goes around the table and states their New Year’s resolutions. I responded by saying I would like to give more of my time to charity. My friends and I discussed how rewarding it was and how they would like to get involved, too. Then the conversation turned toward my birthday. We were trying to decide what to do — party at our house, go to a bar, go out of town, etc. We were weighing the pros and cons of each when it dawned on me: I should invite my friends to help out at a shelter for my birthday.

And that’s just what happened. About 10 of us volunteered at a Santa Monica, CA, shelter. We cooked and served salad, spaghetti with meat sauce, apple cobbler and ice cream. It was a blast! Everyone told me what an amazing time they had and wanted to do the same thing for their birthday. We now have a little birthday club tradition.
