VIV Moment

A couple of years ago, I was traveling in Costa Rica. We were staying in a cool place on the way to Manuel Antonio, a beautiful marine national park.

I was doing yoga by the small pool early one morning, and a group of squirrel monkeys passed through foraging about 10 yards in front of me. I sat on my mat and watched them swing from branch to branch, crashing through the jungle, catching themselves on the next large leaf or branch. I felt so connected to nature, so alive, so far from the chaos of my life and busy law practice in Salt Lake City.

In that moment, I realized that there is a whole world beyond my often myopic and stressed life in the U.S; that I needed to get out and explore it now while there are still places where monkeys swing in trees in front of me.

As Anna Quindlen said, “The life you have led doesn’t need to be the only life you have.”
