VIV Moment
I think that when I was younger I had plenty of VIV Moments that didn’t register because I was too quick to move past and onward toward something that at that time was intangible. In small ways, now, every success, every quiet moment, every experience filled with love is significant to me. But strangely, the most life-affirming moment in recent memory is my father’s death from stroke.
In that moment, registering that he had left the earth, I became an adult, finally — achieved through a reaffirmed relationship with my brother, the unavoidable responsibility of a mother with dementia, and a peace bestowed from the knowledge that a wonderful man lived his life to his satisfaction and left with me a treasure trove of gifts that I could finally claim.
