VIV Moment
With only a few short days before the release of my first novel, I have to wonder if I’m actually experiencing my VIV Moment right now. I had wanted to write a book since I was seven years old — but was horrified to discover via the Guinness Book of World Records that the youngest novelist was six. For reasons unclear even to me, I didn’t actually attempt this feat until nearly three decades later. From initialing mapping out my idea to making the final steps toward publication, it has been a wondrous, stressful and deeply gratifying experience. I’ve experienced the joy of having writers I’ve admired for years praise my book and the horror of my first so-so review (you think I’d link to that? Are you crazy?) It’s triggered some less-than-pretty moments (when, say, the company that bought my book dissolved and there was some discussion about whether it was going to be released at all) and brought me face-to-face with what a control freak I am (I wouldn’t want to be the publicist working with me). Most women my age are having babies; while I still hold out hope that I’ll be able to do that one day, right now Party Girl is the baby I’m releasing to the world. And I didn’t even have to gain any weight to have her.
