Claire Jane Vranian thinks you’re a rock star. In fact, she thinks everyone is a rock star and she wants us to dress the part, which is why she founded her fashion company, Inspired By Claire Jane (ICJUK) three years ago.
Vranian’s fast-growing company produces a line of unisex tops, plus women’s bags and hair ornaments. Even though ICJUK is still a one-woman operation, Vranian has seen her T-shirts worn on stage by some very prominent rockers, including Joe Elliott of Def Leppard and Bill Leverty of FireHouse.
Now an American citizen, Vranian, 41, moved to the U.S. from England in 1994 to work behind the scenes in the entertainment business. “After being in the special-effects makeup industry for 17 years surrounded by fake blood and rubber monsters, I wanted to express myself creatively with my spin on things,” Vranian says. “I’ve always been obsessed with handbags, shoes and clothing. I started sewing handbags for myself and I had people asking me where I got them, which led to me taking custom orders from friends and family. That’s how ICJUK got started, very organic and real!”
As a sole proprietor, Vranian says she works pretty much 24/7 and she and her husband split their time between Los Angeles and Las Vegas, where ICJUK is based. She still makes time to go to the gym four days a week, as well as hiking and swimming. She practices transcendental meditation every day. “I love my TM,” says Vranian. “For the first time in my life, I can really switch off and shut down for 20 minutes at a time. This has been one of the most valuable things I have done for myself. I have had some amazing ideas and designs come up while I was meditating; it gives me clarity and a sense of control and calmness.”
Vranian was recently recognized by Zappos as one of the etailer’s Emerging Designers. On her wish list for 2013 is getting her line picked up by a large retailer like Nordstrom. But in the meantime, she’s continuing to come up with new designs, like her Unisex Skulls Galore Raw Edge Zipper Hoody.
To help you find your own rock ’n’ roll spirit, VIV and ICJUK are giving away a series of ICJUK goodies via VIV’s Facebook page, starting with the new hoody (value $69.95) today! As Vranian says, “Everyone is famous when they wear an ICJUK!”
