While chest pain remains the most common red flag of a heart attack, women are more likely than men to experience three other symptoms, which not be accompanied by the classic chest pain. The American Heart Association lists the following less obvious warning signs:
- Discomfort in the upper body. Pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach.
- Shortness of breath. With or without chest pain.
- Other signs of discomfort. Unexplained fatigue, weakness, breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea or lightheadedness. If you or someone around you experiences any one of these warning signs, call 9-1-1. Log on to heart.org for more info.
