LPGA pro and breast cancer activist Cristie Kerr shares her inspiring story in VIVmag's November/December issue.
By Ann Wycoff
She’s not only the highest earner on the LPGA tour, but pro golfer Cristie Kerr is a philanthropic powerhouse off the fairway. A breast cancer activist, Kerr founded the charity Birdies for Breast Cancer in 2003 after her mother’s breast cancer diagnosis and has since raised nearly $650,000 for research.
“I knew I had to do something to help fight this horrible disease that had afflicted our family,” Kerr says. “I thought about how lucky we were to be healthy and thought of those less fortunate then us.”
Playing golf and giving back are just two of Kerr’s passions. Here, VIVmag’s November/December cover model shares the five things she considers most important in her life.
1. her husband
“He is my best friend and soul mate.”
2. her dog
“Mr. Bailey — he is an apricot dilute mini Chinese Shar-Pei.”
3. wine
“I love the culture, love learning about it, and I love the taste.”
4. shopping
“But only when I make money!”
5. raising funds for Birdies for Breast Cancer
“There is no better feeling than accomplishing something and helping others.”
